About Buddy

Bruce 'Buddy' Shillingsworth Junior is a Muruwari and Budjiti man and is the son of influential elder and environmental activist Bruce Shillingsworth Snr. He is a leader, key organiser and the requisite Indigenous face that enable blackfishing by a group of self-styled “sovereign citizens” who have adopted the rhetoric of Indigenous self-determination to push anti-vaccination beliefs and other conspiracy theories to legitimise their grift. He is regularly spotted livestreaming explosive rants on his social media channels accusing no one specific group of people nor individuals but rather just general 'old man shouts at clouds' vibes.

Beliefs

Shillingsworth and his group have issued numerous calls to arms via social media livestreams for the broader “sovereign citizens” movement as well as indigenous “Sovereigns of origin” groups across the country to converge on Canberra in convoys. During the incidents at Old Parliament House in December 2021 in confrontations with police, they responded with QAnon-style phrases, such as “you are non-player characters” and “pedophile protectors”. Shillingsworth has been filmed repeatedly called for $ 100,000 billion in taxpayer gold to be transferred to his personal bank account for breaches of a pseudo-legal contract. During a series of virtual meetings between prominent members of Indigenous OSTF-affiliated groups and non-Indigenous alternative right-wing activists. Social media exchanges involving members connected to the Muckudda Camp continue to talk up plans to #TakeOldParliment, inspired by the Capitol Hill insurrection in Washington.

Criminal Charges

Bruce Shillingsworth Jr was charged with abetting arson as police allege he blocked emergency services from reaching the doors at Old Parliament House while another man allegedly lit a fire there on 30 December. ACT Police allege Buddy had engaged in crimes including aiding and abetting arson, defacing public property, aiding and abetting the damage of property, assaulting a frontline service worker and resisting a territory public official .The Australian Federal Police and the ACT Police established joint taskforce Operation Pike and had been investigating the leaders and actions of individuals squatting in the Muckadda Camp. Shillingsworth has pleaded not guilty.

Shillingsworth appeared in court on January 14 2022 and was granted bail after agreeing not to enter the suburb of Parkes, ACT and check-in at Sydney’s Redfern police station three times a week. He was also prohibited from being in contact with Dylan Didge Wilson.
